Mike Kenney - Bass

For five years while in the midst of career, kids and a mortgage, Mike commuted from Houston's northwest outskirts into the city on a freeway perpetually under construction. Fortunately Mike had his Subaru's audio system to keep him company on those long drives, and it featured a special, underrated plus:  a crisp sounding subwoofer in the
floorboard under the driver seat.  Mike began to feel and hear the bass and drums in a way he hadn't before.

Mike had been involved in music long before. An electric guitar sat neglected for decades under his bed, from high school days playing in a garage band.  Inspired by his new appreciation for the role of the bass in his favorite music, Mike bought a Music Man Stingray and started teaching himself to play. A couple years later, his wife introduced him to a co-worker's husband, Chris Horaist, a drummer who happened to live in the same
neighborhood. Initially they practiced together at a local music school called the Rehearsal Room. Realizing that they had become a rhythm section, Mike and Chris searched out other musicians who shared the same vision and formed Festus!
